Path from campground to ocean



They do exist!!

It was great to turn into the camp ground after driving through all the traffic in Seattle, I'm just not a big city gal.  The camp ground is nestled in the trees and walking distance from the beach. After hooking up we walk to the beach it was low tide, went back at 7:30 pm to see the high tide.  It was cloudy and with the breeze from the Ocean it was a little cold ok it was real cold for me, sweatshirt and fleece jacket!!


The rig that came in just ahead of us was a Mercedes European one, they ship them here to travel, imagine what that cost them!!  It's mean looking.


Chatted with our neighbor, he was from Florida but originally from New Hampshire, he's basically doing the same route as we are!! He was in Yellowstone a week ahead of us and is also doing the coastal highway 1 and 101.

Up Date

We haven't done any sight seeing the last couple of days, did groceries and a trip to Camping World for supplies.  Charlie returned the car on Monday and today was cleaning and laundry day.  We're leaving here tomorrow (Wednesday)morning and driving to Bay Center, WA.  we'll stay there for a couple of days, from there a drive to Hammond, OR where we'll decide how long our stay will be.

Mount Baker

Today we took a ride to Mount Baker.  It was gorgeous.  The views were breath taking and the air was crisp.  The sun shining on the snow looked like thousands of tiny crystals had fallen from the sky.  I made a snowball and threw it at Charlie!!  What fun! 

Topping out at a lofty 10,778 feet, Mount Baker is one of the most heavily glaciated peaks in the Cascade Range,  covered year-round on its upper flanks with a cloak of ice and hardened snow.  The average snowfall is 647 inches.

Switchback! 

The road was not my favorite it had so many curves and switchbacks I thought I was going to die before getting up there to enjoy the view!!  :)  and of course coming down wasn't any better.  I would highly recommend this trip if you're ever out this way.

Bow/Edison

Fun driving to see 2 tiny towns.  Interesting having the bay on the left side and on the right were fields with cows and crops.  Logging was at it's peak in this  area a century ago, the bay was full of floating logs being transported by water. Established as a town in 1884, the bay became a bustling community filled with shops and saloons. We really enjoyed seeing the beautiful houses that people have restored.  We were able to take a picture of the deer, he was close to the road and stood there while I put the window down.  I always hold my breath when I see them so close to the road, always afraid their going to run in front of us.


We decided we're not going to drive to Seattle to take a tour.  It would be a 2 hour drive each way and we just don't want to deal with the traffic.  Instead we'll continue to tour the towns in this area.

Historical Downtown Anacortes

Great day visiting Historical Downtown Anacortes.  It was fascinating to see all the charming old buildings and to learn it's history.


 Samish and other Northern Straits Salish peoples have inhabited the land in and around Anacortes for thousands of years. Permanent non-Indian settlement began in the 1860s. Anacortes was incorporated in 1891 with an economy based on lumber, fishing and fish processing, and farming. These industries thrived for many years before facing decline in the mid-twentieth century. Several oil companies selected Anacortes for refineries in the 1950s. Refining, tourism, residential and retirement housing, and commercial retail have come to dominate the local economy. 


You know how I love pizza, so we stopped and had lunch at a place called The Pizza Factory, known for their hand tossed pizza.   The pizza was Great!  We were talking to one of the guys (didn't know he was the owner) I was telling him that I always wanted to hand toss a pizza and that was one of the things on my bucket list.  We were getting ready to leave when he said are you ready to toss a pizza??  I said really!  he said yes I want to make that happen for you!!  I had so much fun and managed to keep it in the air and off the floor!!  It's not as easy as it looks. It made me feel emotional to think he would be so kind to do this for me.
